Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Storage and Virtualisation to lead our virtualisation and storage initiatives. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with various virtualisation technologies and a proven track record in managing complex IT environments. This role involves strategic planning, implementation, and management of virtualisation and storage solutions to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and security.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the virtualisation team in designing, implementing, and managing solutions across platforms like VMware, Nutanix, Hyper-V, and KVM.
- Develop and execute a strategic plan for virtualisation aligned with the company's IT strategy.
- Ensure the virtualisation infrastructure is secure, scalable, and highly available.
- Oversee the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of virtual machines and networks.
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate virtualisation solutions with other systems.
- Manage and optimise virtualisation environments' performance.
- Stay updated with the latest trends in virtualisation and recommend improvements.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team.
- Develop and manage budgets, including hardware, software, and training.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and management of storage solutions (SAN, NAS, DAS).
- Ensure storage infrastructure is secure, scalable and highly available including backup.
- Ensure research infrastructure is secure, scalable and highly available.
Personal Skills and Attributes:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master's degree is a plus).
- Extensive experience with virtualisation technologies (VMware, Nutanix, Hyper-V, KVM).
- Proven leadership experience in IT, specifically in virtualisation and storage.
- Strong understanding of networking, storage, and security principles.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Relevant certifications (VCP, Azure Administrator, Red Hat) are highly desirable.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) preferred.
- Familiarity with automation tools and scripting languages.
- Knowledge of containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
